Cod Comp 2014

Results of the 2014 British Cod Championship organised by the West Wight Charter Skippers Association.

The competition was held on the 12th and 13th November 2014.
Due to strong winds this year’s competition was fished in the Western Solent between East leap buoy in the East to Hurst castle in the West, there were 12 boats and 95 competitors taking part.
Day one of the competition fished well with 23 Cod taken to the scales at the end of the day, best fish of day one and winning the £1000 cheque for biggest fish was a Cod weighing 25lb 8oz caught by Archie Andrews fishing aboard Last Laugh skippered by John Skeggs.
Day two of the competition fished better than anyone thought it was going to with 48 cod taken to the scales at the end of the day, best fish of the day and winning the £1000 cheque for biggest fish on day two was Gavin Jackson with a Cod weighing in at 19lb 4oz fishing aboard Challenger skippered by Mike Cottingham.
Winner of the overall championships and winning the £1000 cheque was Geoffrey Bond with 6 Cod total weight of 17lb 10oz,
Second place was Clive Webb with 5 Cod with a total weight of 21lb 8oz,
Third place went to Glen Toms with 5 Cod with a total weight of 14lb 3oz.
The top boat prize donated by Lowrance was won by Phosphorescent skippered by Rob Thompson with 14 Cod over the two days.
